PHYSICAL DIALOGUES with Daniel Lepkoff OPEN LEVEL 5 week series: Wednesdays, 6:00-8:00 PM May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 at BOMBYX CENTER FOR ARTS AND EQUITY 130 Pine Street, Florence MA! CLASS FEES: DROP IN RATE: $35 Arts Supporter/Able to Give: $35-$500 FIVE WEEK SESSION: $110-$200 students/low income: $100 full series DANIEL LEPKOFF is a dancer, performer, writer, and teacher known for bringing the process of living movement into the studio and onto the stage. During the early 1970s and into the mid-1980s, he played a central role in the development of both Release Technique with Mary Fulkerson and Contact Improvisation with Steve Paxton. Over the course of more than five decades, he has looked closely at the interweaving of sensation, perception, and action arising in the body's ever-present interactions with its environment and has developed dance techniques for bringing this material into the body and onto the stage. As a teacher he is known for his continual invention of original techniques, making direct contact with information, and pursuing questions together with students. He is one of the founders of Movement Research in NYC. He works internationally and lives on a piece of land in Vermont |

Spring '24: Dancemaking and Technique (ages 7-10)
Mondays 4-5pm DANCE-MAKING + TECHNIQUE (ages 7-10) ** 5 WEEK SERIES! ** Mondays, 4:00pm-5:00 PM Spring Session ( 5 sessions ): April 29, May 6, 13, 20th, June 3rd With a performance in Hatchery's Spring Showcase, 6/14, 6/15 In the Workroom of the Northampton Community Arts Trust building, 33 Hawley St., Northampton, MA. This registration is for the 5-week Winter/Spring Session with classes on Tuesdays from April 29 - June 3rd, 2024 with Kate Martel These movement classes consist of a Modern Dance warm-up followed by a choreography lab. During our choreography lab, we will focus on using objects and costumes as duet partners and source material. We will experiment with various ways to make dances, both uncovering themes through physical research and allowing predetermined concepts to drive choreographic inquiry. This class will create a short work to perform in the Hatchery Dance Company Spring show June 14-15, 2024! |

This is a workshop series for young artists ages 12-18 interested in performance art of any kind (dance, acting, poetry, music, etc). Learn how to expand your perspective, skillset, and artistic voice through the teaching and mentorship of our rotating faculty of professional dancers, actors, and musicians. This is an opportunity to gather artmaking tools from a variety of experiences and meet other young artists interested in interdisciplinary collaboration.

Amherst, MA — Peter B. Schmitz (December 29, 1950 – August 10, 2022) offered his rigorously innovative mind and spirit to the performing arts for over five decades as a choreographer, actor, dancer, and educator. Peter died peacefully at home under the tender care of his husband, Joey Trazo Schmitz. HADLEY, MA — Jean Barrett Baxter, 74, of Hadley, MA, died peacefully at home on 8/11/2022 surrounded by family following a journey of 10 months with brain cancer. A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday, October 8th, 2022, at 11am at the First Congregational Church, 102 Middle Street, Hadley Ma. A brief graveside service will follow at the Old Hadley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be contributed to the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts in her name. HERMESDORF January 31,1967 -November 29, 2020 (age 53) passed away on November 29, 2020 at the age of 53. She was a stunning artist and a generous builder of community. She was an abundant mover, a literal shaker, an incredible force of nature.She was a convener of dreamers, a home for unruly creative impulses. She was a stellar human - graced with grit and humor and love and generosity - whose movement and teaching transformed those in her sphere in innumerable ways. NANCY STARK SMITH
age 68, a writer, editor, and dancer who co-founded the contemporary dance form called Contact Improvisation, died of ovarian cancer at home in Florence, MA, on Friday, May 1, 2020. "Where you are when you don't know where you are is one of the most precious spots offered by improvisation. It is a place from which more directions are possible than anywhere else.
