March 3, 4pm: The Davis Sisters + Ruby Rose Fox
Performance featuring The Davis Sisters and Ruby Rose Fox
Sunday, March 3 at 4pm
STUDIO4: 25 Main St, Northampton, MA
After a successful collaboration between Joy Davis and Ruby Rose Fox on her experimental album performance, Salt, The Davis Sisters (Alexander and Joy Davis) and Ruby Rose Fox come together for the first time to begin an exploratory performance practice fusing Fox's new in-process trap opera album, and The Davis Sister's rigorous, comedically driven dance theater work.
At the threshold of dance, theater, comedy and installation, The Davis Sisters create performance experiences which invite contemplation of humanity, enjoyment of absurdity, and delight in verbal and physical articulation. Drawing from pop culture and the pedestrian, we develop work that evokes the innate theatricality of everyday life alongside illusive imagery from non-logical dreamscapes. Celebrated choreographers in their own right, The Davis Sisters work at intersection of physical rigor, dramaturgical research, and glamour that both artists respect in the other. Through imagination and improvisation, we courageously and insightfully dare to create scenarios in which we perform magnified versions of ourselves. Alex and Joy were 2018 Schonberg (Boston) Fellows at The Yard where they created their most recent evening length duet Junk Drawer; they are in residence this spring 2019 at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston developing a new work based on an exhibit of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
Boston based artist Ruby Rose Fox is a cultural messenger of our turbulent modern times. Her music is as sonically compelling as it is subversive, packed with lyrics that reflect and challenge our current political state, from #metoo, to the mass-shooting crisis. Part actress, director, and writer, Fox has never shied away from inventive ways to approach her art.
