LOCULUS + The Loculus Journal

SCDT RESIDENCY SUMMER 2018

LOCULUS Collective is a dance collective founded in 2015 in Western Massachusetts. LOCULUS is the collaborative work of Olana Z Flynn and Madison Palffy. The collective has performed extensively in Western Massachusetts and throughout the northeast often in collaboration with DIY musicians and artists in non-traditional dance performance spaces. Olana and Madison have been collaborating for over 5 years and are interested in work that values memory, multiple intelligences, and the potential for many worlds to exist in one performance. Their collaborations span the material (sound, objects, video) and immaterial (dead artists, long distance friends, ghosts).

In addition to creating, curating, and producing performance events LOCULUS publishes The Loculus Journal. Volume I, Issue I was released August 2015 in print at the debut performance by the collective at The American Legion in Hadley, MA. The Loculus Journalis a platform for engaging critically around questions of the body in dance and performance across discipline and medium. LOCULUS is committed to inclusive, anti-oppressive curation in performance and publishing. Volume III, Issue I of The Loculus Journal, which will be released Fall 2019, is moving to an online format. We are excited about this change for a few reasons – it honors the primarily the long-distance creative collaboration between Olana and Madison and it will allow us to expand the kinds of work we can publish to include media-based projects (sound, video, etc.). Our hope is that moving away from print to an online format will allow The Loculus Journal to function as a platform for conversation and collaboration across distance and discipline.

IN RESIDENCE:
During our month long SCDT residency in July 2018 we conceived, created, and rehearsed a brand new performance work TWINSISTERGHOST. The pieced toured throughout New England in August 2018—at The Root Cellar in Greenfield, MA / The Apohadian Theater in Portland, Maine / Mascher Space Co-op in Philadelphia, PA and The Glove in Brooklyn, NY.

twinghostsister is:
an experiment in sharing two long-term solo practices
an ongoing practice of saying “yes” to whims, obsessions, and desires
a punk dance —whatever that means
haunted
interested in antagonisms and the amateur
