About WIP:
The School for Contemporary Dance and Thought presents WIP (works-in-progress), a performance series that showcases developing movement-based works. WIP values sharing research and experimentation, rather than presenting finished works, and welcomes applications from emerging and established artists. The curatorial team choosing WIP choreographers is composed of fellow dance artists that have presented at WIP and SCDT board members. We are looking to create performances showcasing a diverse range of established and emerging artists, as well as those local to the Pioneer Valley and beyond. The curatorial team aims to create a program comprised of artists both local and national.

NANCY STARK SMITH
age 68, a writer, editor, and dancer who co-founded the contemporary dance form called Contact Improvisation, died of ovarian cancer at home in Florence, MA, on Friday, May 1, 2020. "Where you are when you don't know where you are is one of the most precious spots offered by improvisation. It is a place from which more directions are possible than anywhere else. I call this place The Gap," Stark Smith wrote in a Contact Quarterly editor's note in 1987. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Contact Quarterly www.contactquarterly.com/ donate. |
