XAN BURLEY + ALEX SPRINGER
Xan Burley + Alex Springer have been New York-based creators, performers, and teachers since 2007 and relocated to Western Mass in 2018 to pursue their MFAs in Dance and Choreography at Smith College. Burley and Springer were members of Doug Varone and Dancers until 2017 and have performed in the work of artists Jeanine Durning, Adriane Fang, Shannon Gillen, Angie Hauser, Heidi Henderson, Leyya Tawil, and Donnell Oakley, among others. Their collaborative choreography has recently been presented by the American Dance Festival, Jacob’s Pillow, New Dance Alliance Performance Mix Festival, Center for Performance Research, Danspace Project, Movement Research at the Judson Church, University Settlement, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, DANCE NOW Joe’s Pub Festival, the 92Y, and Triskelion Arts. Notable residencies and awards include the Marble House Project, a Jacob’s Pillow Research Fellowship, CPR’s inaugural Technical/Production Residency and AIR, Gibney Space Grant, University Settlement Artist Residency, and BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange Fall Space Grant. They received the 2015 Emerging Artist Alumni Award from their undergraduate alma mater, the University of Michigan. Their work has been commissioned for many university dance departments and professional companies, including Zenon Dance Company in Minneapolis, MN. They have been on faculty at Gibney, Mark Morris Dance Center, Bates Dance Festival, SUNY Purchase, the University of Maryland, and Wesleyan University. www.xanandalex.com |
